The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in collaboration with the International Triathlon Union, has announced that Abu Dhabi will host the opening leg of the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series. The event will take place on March 28-29 on Al Hudayriat Island. The Abu Dhabi 2026 World Triathlon City Championship, supported by TAQA, will bring together a elite group of world-class athletes in triathlon and paratriathlon. They will compete in a weekend filled with fast-paced, high-level races, alongside a diverse program of community races that allow athletes of all ages and abilities to compete on the same course as the world's best. Arif Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, stated in a press release that hosting the opening leg of the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series in Abu Dhabi demonstrates the emirate's advanced global standing in organizing and hosting major international sporting events, reflecting the growing confidence of international sports federacies in Abu Dhabi's organizational capabilities and modern infrastructure. The Abu Dhabi 2026 World Triathlon City Championship serves as a key stop for athletes from across the region and the world to explore the event's venue ahead of the capital's hosting of the 2026 World Multisport Triathlon Championship. This championship will be held on Al Hudayriat Island from November 13-22 of the same year, jointly organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Madinat, in collaboration with the International Triathlon Union. The Abu Dhabi 2026 World Triathlon City Championship marks the official launch of the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series, following the conclusion of the 2025 season, which featured intense competition and exceptional performances throughout the year.
